Deep in a sacred grove, rival gnome cultivators grow living Plant Creatures through accelerated magical growth, then unleash them in ritual battle to determine the next Guardian of the Grove. In Leaf & Let Die, players build a persistent tableau creature by grafting Roots, Vines, and Flowers onto their Field Husk while simultaneously developing a polyhedral dice engine. During the Cultivation phase, players roll dice, use shared Grove resources, gain Critters and Wisps from low rolls, and acquire new Plant cards and stronger dice from the shared Grove. When the Resource deck runs out, the game transitions into Battle, where players compete over strike rows on a shared Battle Grid for VP while managing wounds, attrition, timing windows, and collapsing dice economies. A major design goal is that low rolls still create momentum. Rolling 1s and 2s grants support systems like Worms, Bees, Wisps, Butterflies, Mulch, and Water, creating alternative forms of growth instead of simple failure states. This Protospiel session is primarily focused on further testing the shorter “Accelerant Trial” mode. I am especially interested in testing two recent changes - Newly purchased Plant cards are now immediately grafted onto the creature in a spent state. - Wounds now first flip active cards face down before causing permanent card loss.
